Honey Snap Studio Austin Wedding Photographers

Honey Snap: A History

Hi friends!  I’m so glad you’re here.  Where do I begin?!  I’ll start with a little background.  I’m Caitlyn.  I’m 26 years old and I am the Austin wedding photographer/creative behind Honey Snap Studio.  I have loved photography since I was in grade school but have only been doing it professionally for the past 5 years.  Last year, I decided to take my business and breathe new life into it so made 2019 all about my website and branding.  I knew I needed to figure what story I wanted Honey Snap to tell.  I made a style guide, I figured out what I wanted my branding to say, and I created and launched my website.  This year, I’ve decided that I want 2020 to be all about content.

I know content is so important.  They say it ALL THE TIME, knowledge is power!  And I want to share my knowledge with you. This is just the start of many blog posts, but for now, I want to begin with a January 2020 recap.  2020 has been a big year already. I finally decided that I wanted to take a leap and move full steam ahead with Honey Snap.  I can be a relatively indecisive person and so for a very long time, I wasn’t sure if photography was the right path for me.  It took a lot of Jenna Kutcher’s entrepreneurial podcasts and courses for me to finally decide what I wanted, and this is it!

All of that to say, here I am!  Imperfectly working on my own small business and trying to make my dreams a reality.  Cheesy right?  At the end of every month, I want to finish with a monthly recap so I can document the progression of my business journey as an Austin wedding photographer.  January brought about a lot of reflection (as it does for most people) and this year I dream of blogging about my passions, letting others into my world, sharing photography knowledge with people just like you, and building my clientele with the type of people I dream of working with.  Needless to say, I’ve got big dreams!

Career Updates

-Hired My First Marketing Gal!-

I have a lot of goals but I realized that I just couldn’t reach them all alone.  I’ve been doing marketing and photography while working from home for the past two years and I genuinely felt like I wasn’t getting as far as I wanted.  I was spreading myself too thin and I just didn’t have time for everything I wanted to do!  So this month I hired my first marketing gal, Cicily. Cicily is helping me in all areas related to social media, newsletters, organization, and administrative tasks.  It has been SO wonderful to get some tedious things that have been on my to-do list handled so that I can focus more on the areas of my business that I’m good at and actually enjoy.

-Created a Batch Schedule-

What is a batch schedule?  A batch schedule is basically batching work of the same kind for the same time.  On Mondays I work on administrative tasks, Tuesdays I work on social media, Wednesdays I work on newsletters, and so on.  It has been the most productive thing I’ve put into action in the last few months by far.  I feel so much more free because this enneagram type 1 now feels like her life is extremely organized, and if that’s not the most type 1 thing you’ve ever heard then I don’t know what is!  I can’t say I’ve gotten this batch working thing down pat YET but I’m working on finding a schedule that works.

-Launched Valentine's Mini Sessions-

I am currently working on Valentine’s mini sessions.  I am SO PUMPED about these.  I will be taking photos at Laguna Gloria which has been at the top of my list for so long now!  If you haven’t yet, head on over to my Mini Sessions page to get all the details on my upcoming sessions!

-Got Published-

My photography was published in The Book of Beautiful Weddings magazine, which came out this month, and you guys have GOT to get your hands on it.  It’s a good one!  It’s full of wedding inspiration and was created by some pretty awesome people.  There are lots of wonderful vendors that are apart of it and I’m so happy that I had the opportunity to join as an Austin wedding photographer!

Personal Updates

-Spending More Time Reading-

On a more personal note, I’ve made reading more of a priority in my day-to-day.  Admittedly, I wasn’t a big reader when I was younger but I started reading a lot more in the past couple of years.  Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that when I get really busy, I cut it out of my schedule.  Reading is very much self care for me, so I want to make it a priority.  This month I’ve finished Joanna Gaines’s book, Homebody, and I have felt more inspired than ever to make our house feel more like home.  I’ll save all things home-related for another post but just to let you in on something, I’m obsessed with Victorian homes and my DREAM is to be the photographer that lives in one.  So to say I was a little inspired by Homebody is an understatement.  Currently finding my dream home on Zillow, brb.  Anyways, right now I am reading The Road Back to You and the illustrated Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

-Learning to Enjoy Cooking-

Another personal goal that I set for myself was to cook more this year and I can now say, without a doubt, that I can cook!  I have just never enjoyed it lol. I thought something that would help me enjoy it is pairing wine with our dinners, so I’ve been loving pairing all of our chicken-based dishes with Chardonnay!  My go to recipes this month were gnocchi soup (AMAZING – I served this to some friends when they came over to watch The Bachelor and it was a huge hit!) tortilla soup, roasted chicken and carrots, and pico de gallo!

Wow!  This was a long one.  Thanks for sticking with me.  I don’t know where the rest of the year will go after this, but this January was a really great start and I hope to continue this trend of inspiration, big dreams, play, and self care.  My goal for this year is to post a blog every Friday so make me stick to it and check back next week where I’ll be talking all about what to wear for your upcoming engagement session!
